Silver Inside

Lyrics and Music ©2015 by Bill Roper

I wrote this song for the FKO songwriting contest, where the theme was "Silver". I think it's one of the saddest songs I've ever written.

G D C
I hear your voice, but I know you’re gone.
G D C
I see your face, but you’re not there.
Am D
And it’s so hard to carry on.
C D Em7
I miss the silver in your hair.
Am7/G D
I could swear it’s almost real
Am7/G C/G D
And I don’t know just how to feel.
Em7 Am7/G
Ever since the day you died,
C/G D Em7
I only see the silver inside.

I know you didn’t choose to go.
I know I wished that you could stay.
I only wish that I could know
The part of you that’s gone away.
And though you say that you’re the same,
I cannot call you by her name.
Ever since the day you died,
I only see the silver inside.

	        Asus2
	And you look like her,

	And you sound like her,
	        Dsus2 Em7
And you move the way she moved.
	    Asus2
	You answer like her,

	Touch me like her,
	Dsus2 Em7
	Say that you’re improved.
	      Am7/G
And I want to think it’s true,
	      D
But I know that it’s not you.

I want to stay, but I have to go.
I cannot be here where you are.
I cannot live with what I know.
I cannot face the thing you are.
And though you swear your mind is whole,
I cannot see a human soul.
Ever since the day you died,
I only see the silver inside.

Em7 Am7/G
Ever since the day you died,
C/G D G
I only see the silver inside.
